Camping:

This year's camping event will be the best and most widely attended yet. For those that plan to camp out, we have made arrangements again with The Nature Conservancy of Louisiana, Mary Ann Brown Preserve from October 2nd - October 12th. This wonderful location is ideal for sleeping under the stars. Aside from the beautiful location, it is less than 7 miles from the synagogue. There is no cost for camping.

The Mary Ann Brown Preserve is located along the eastern boundary of the Tunica Hills, in West Feliciana Parish, between St. Francisville and Jackson, Louisiana. We will have exclusive use of the camping area. These are not defined camp spaces and do not have electrical or water hook ups. There are restroom facilities.

Here is the link to the camp site. Mary Ann Brown Preserve

Click here to view more campground pictures.

Camp set up will begin on the morning of 10/2. The first order will be to set up the common areas. We will start with the meal area and then erect the sukkah. We will set up the frame of the sukkah and then help one another set up tents. The sukkah will be “dressed” in the evening and the next day. The sukkah will be over 600 sq. feet! If you have something that you would like to decorate with, feel free to bring it. No crosses please.

Here is a list of suggested things to bring:

Tent
Tarps
Rain gear
Soap
Scriptures
Camera
Flashlight
Sleeping bag
Rope
Walking Shoes
Tooth care
Notebook
Small broom
Batteries
Drinking cup and coffee cup
Battery operated lantern
Cot, air mattress or pad
Clothes - be prepared for warmer weather during the day and cooler weather during the nights
Shampoo
Personal snacks

You will need to bring any camping supplies as this is a primitive site. If you do not own camping gear, but want to camp out with us, let me know and we will work something out. Some will be flying in and will not want to bring extra luggage and so if this describes your situation, let us know and we may be able to arrange some camping gear for you as well.

Hotels:

We have blocked 10 rooms (some non smoking doubles, kings, and smoking) at the Best Western Zachary Inn.  The rooms, whether they are two double beds or a king w/ or w/o a pull out bed are $81 per night at a group rate discount.  You can google the hotel to view the rooms.
The Best Western is 29 minutes from the Mary Brown Preserve and 27 minutes from St. Francisville, the site of the conference.  To reserve a room at the discounted rate, you need to use the Group code - "Roots" and call 225-658-2550.  There are only a few non smoking rooms available, so if this is important to you, please call right away.  We only have until
Sept. 19th to reserve these rooms before the group block is cancelled.

Another option may be the Western Inn in Baker, La.  For extended stay guest (3 or more nights) the rooms are $55 for doubles and $50 for singles.  You may also view the rooms by googling Western Inn in Baker, LA.  This hotel is 32 minutes from the Preserve and I assume 30 minutes from the conference site (Temple Sinai). The Western Inn phone number is 225-636-5717.

Here are links that may be helpful if you want to begin a search for a
place to stay that is close to the campground.

Lulav and Etrog:

Lulavs and etrogs will be $40.00 each.  If you want one but did not choose "yes" for lulav and etrog on the registration form, please contact Web by September 5th.  You may pay for the etrog at the feast.

The lulav and etrog are the traditional Jewish way of fulfilling this command:

Lev 23:40
40 `And you shall take for yourselves on the first day the fruit of beautiful trees, branches of palm trees, the boughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook; and you shall rejoice before YHWH your Elohim for seven days.

Meals:

We will have a permanent cooking area as well as a 640 sq. ft. dining shelter. There is a meal plan available. All meals provided in his plan are kosher. All meat is slaughtered under rabbinic supervision. The menu is posted below.  Participation is optional.

There are restaurants in the area as well as grocery stores. Some may wish to bring and cook their own food.

Costs for Meals:

Breakfast and dinner will be served daily with a midday snack. The cost for meals for the entire week will be $110 per person for those 12 years and older and $55 per person for those 4 years – 11 years. 3 and under are free.

There is also an option for those who wish to participate for the weekend. For those who wish to join us over the weekend (Friday October 9-Sunday, October 11), here are the costs:

$50 for 12 years old and over
$25 for 4-11 years old
free for 3 and under

Additionally, you may purchase individual meals for the following costs:

$15 for 12 years old and over
$7.50 for 4-11 years old
free for 3 and under

Meal fees need to be received by 8/30/09, so that we may make the order with the Kosher supplier. We need an accurate count in order to give the required lead time. Again, you need not participate in this if you do not want to. The grill will be available (except on Shabbat - we will be eating foods that do not require us to "kindle a fire" on the Sabbath).

Paying for Meals:

Send a check to:
Roots of Faith
PO Box 695
Saint Francisville, La. 70775

Or you can go to http://www.rootsoffaith.net/page/support-rof
and submit the payment on-line with a credit card. It would be very
helpful if, by 8/30/09, you could email us a count of adults and children that will be eating so that we can proceed with the planning. Web has to work
with the Kosher supplier to place the order.

Breakfast and dinner will be served daily with a midday snack.  All meals are kosher.  All meat is slaughtered under rabbinic supervision.  Everyone (10 yrs. and older) attending will have times assigned to help with meal preparation and/or clean up.   The menu may be altered slightly or re-arranged in order to accommodate availability or schedule changes.

Raising the Sukkah - Congregation Beth Lechem Sukkot 2008
Amos 9 “For look, I am commanding, and I shall sift the house of Yisra’ĕl among all the gentiles, as one sifts with a sieve, yet not a grain falls to the ground. “In that day I shall raise up the booth of Dawiḏ which has fallen down. And I shall repair its breaches and raise up its ruins. And I shall build it as in the days of old, so that they possess the remnant of Eḏom, and all the gentiles on whom My Name is called,” declares יהוה who does this.
